Storage hardware varies in the access rime the time it takes to locate data on storage media. It also varies in the speed at which data can be input or output the transfer rate shows the access times and transfer rates for disk and tape drives. When compared to those of hard disk drives, access times are slower for floppy disk drives, because the disk does not spin as fast.
The speed in which the disk turns is just one factor that determines how fast data can be read and written. The type of disk controller used to connect the disk drive to the computer’s internal circuitry is another factor. A disk controller is connected to a computer’s expansion bus in several ways. On some computers the controller is found on the computer’s motherboard; in other configurations the disk controller is on an expansion card that slips into one of the motherboard’s expansion slots.
